Dixie Joy Adjei

Life often brings many difficult challenges that make processing traumatic events, emotions, and reactions hard. For children and teens, balancing school, social media, puberty, friendships, family dynamics, and environmental changes can further complicate their developing minds. Navigating emotions and thoughts becomes particularly challenging during these times, especially when figuring out the next steps in difficult situations.

I use a holistic, creative, and individualized approach in the therapeutic process to support each person’s unique experiences, needs, and goals in therapy.

I aim to create a safe, welcoming, and comfortable space where you can confidently express yourself and feel truly heard and understood.

Experience:

Dixie Adjei is a skilled child psychotherapist with over 12 years of experience working with children aged 2 to 14. A notable highlight of her career is her role in creating a program with the City of Toronto. This initiative supports young people who have experienced loss from community violence by providing creative outlets to help them express and process their emotions. This program reflects her commitment to innovative and compassionate support for youth navigating grief and trauma.

Dixie’s extensive experience in the field has given her a profound understanding of the unique emotional, behavioural, and developmental needs of children. She employs a diverse range of therapeutic modalities, including Art Therapy, Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), to tailor her approach to each child’s specific needs.

In addition to her work with children, Dixie has been supporting families for the past three years, addressing family dynamics and challenges across diverse backgrounds. Her empathetic approach fosters effective communication and helps families navigate complex issues, strengthening their relationships.

Dixie’s expertise also extends to adults who struggle with expressing difficult emotions or processing trauma. She utilizes creative methods such as Music Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, and Drama Therapy to help individuals articulate and manage their emotions, particularly those dealing with grief, anxiety, behavioural changes, depression, and trauma.

Her dedication to improving the mental health and well-being of both children and families is evident through her continuous professional development and impactful therapeutic practices. Dixie Adjei’s holistic and empathetic approach has made a significant difference in the lives of her clients, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to fostering resilience and emotional growth.
