Does it feel like your emotions are a burden rather than a valuable message? Different life experiences such as a traumatic event, childhood trauma and chronic stress can make it harder for us to regulate our emotions. I am here to help you reconnect with your body, with your emotions and with yourself. I strive to help build a relationship with those emotions that may feel like too much and to learn how to allow space for them in your life.

My passion lies in working with teens and couples, though I have much experience working with adults as well. I work mostly through a somatic lens, incorporating Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and mindfulness approaches. My areas of focus include eating disorders, anger management, self-compassion, trauma and coping with big or numbed emotions (including anger, panic, sadness and shame). With couples, I work from an EFCT approach to notice the patterns of disconnection in your relationship that are leading you to feel stuck. Other modalities that I weave in include polyvagal, somatic, Brainspotting, and trauma-informed therapies.

I strive to incorporate my background in intersectional studies to create an empowering and anti-oppressive space for all. I like to work creatively together to find solutions and tools that are specifically helpful to you. I am a creative and open psychotherapist who is passionate about being accepting to all clients and situations. Together, we can start to change these patterns and allow for more secure attachment conversations.

Janelle is a Registered Psychotherapist and a Saint Paul University graduate with a Master of Arts degree in Counselling and Spirituality. Over the past five years, she has worked at Family Services Ottawa, working with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, homelessness and grief. She has a Minor in Feminist Studies where she had the privilege of learning about intersectionality, oppression and generational trauma.

A little more about me…
I love to read fiction books, especially fantasy! I have always found comfort in experiencing other stories and perspectives. Please feel free to share with me your favourite ways to escape.
