Searching for a therapist to share your deepest and innermost thoughts, ideas, and emotions with can be challenging and even downright scary! Thankfully, my career started as a speech-language pathologist and later evolved into art therapy and psychotherapy. This 30-year foundation in speech-language pathology provided me with tools for rapport building and communication that ensure people feel at ease to open up. I have dedicated my personal and professional life to creating a safe and inclusive space where everyone feels heard, seen, and valued; demonstrated by my international work experiences in Romania, Brazil, Cambodia, and our own Northern country (Inuvik), that have provided me with extensive training in cultural awareness, including Indigenous awareness training (Two-Eyed Seeing). This allows me to provide trauma informed and culturally competent care.
My approach offers a unique, integrative method to therapy and combines my knowledge and experience in communication, creative expression, and emotional well-being. Many people have shared that they are unable to do art therapy because “they are not artists”. When using the creative practices and art in therapy NO art experience is needed, since it is about the process and not the product!
I have developed a reputation as a warm, insightful, and profoundly committed therapist who helps people of all ages navigate life’s challenges with resilience and creativity.
The clients I work with experience a wide range of needs, including:
- Enhancing the communication needed to express emotions in children, youth, and adults with communication or social difficulties.
- Guiding teens through the complexities of adolescence including self-esteem, peer relationships, and identity development.
- Supporting families in building stronger connections, resolving conflicts, and fostering harmony.
- Providing a safe space to process trauma, anxiety, or grief in a way that feels accessible and empowering.
- Helping individuals discover their spiritual path and purpose, integrating personal beliefs with emotional growth.
- Utilizing dream work to uncover hidden insights and foster deeper self-awareness.
- Working with veterans and DND members to cope with PTSD, trauma, and grief.
- Helping adoptees understand their identity and the feelings associated with being adopted.
I have a special place in my heart for children and teens who are experiencing learning difficulties, ADHD and executive function issues, self-harm, and substance use concerns. These issues are often rooted in underlying challenges, difficulty with self-regulation and communication, and difficulty with interpersonal relationships. It’s a tough time to grow up with the pressures of social media and various other societal pressures. I have found that these issues impact parents as well, which can be difficult for both you as the parent and your child.
Beyond traditional therapy, I integrate dream work and spiritual exploration for those seeking deeper self-understanding and purpose, helping clients connect with their inner wisdom and navigate their unique journeys.
In our treatment sessions, I aim to balance practical tools with compassionate understanding making therapy both transformational and approachable. Whether helping clients navigate communication challenges, processing complex emotions through art, or in building healthier relationships, I aim to tailor each session to the unique needs of the individual or family. We walk alongside each other through creative expression, mindfulness, and evidence-based techniques to develop a realistic plan.
If you’re ready to start, I always offer a 20-minute consultation to see if we are a good fit. I’d love to help you or a member of your family get the help they need to live better.
A little more about me…
In my spare time you may find me spending time with my family, painting or making mixed media art, writing poetry, kayaking, roller skating, learning French, hiking and foraging, hanging out with my crew of animals (or rescuing new ones), thrifting, watching a good foreign film, and reading.
